Ernst Czerny

Ernst Czerny is a researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), affiliated with the Egyptian Commission, Commission for Egypt and the Levant, and the Institute for Oriental and European Archaeology (OREA). His work spans Egyptian archaeology, material culture, and the history of Egyptology, with a focus on ceramics, scarabs, and seals.

• Studied law, Egyptology, and art history at the Universities of Graz and Vienna
• PhD in 1991 from the University of Vienna
• Scientific editor for the journal "Egypt and the Levant" and associated series

Research projects include excavations at Tell el-Dab'a, analyzing seal impressions and temple structures. His interests also extend to 19th-century Oriental painting in Austria and the Research History Platform of the OREA Institute.
