Ernesto Peña

Ernesto Peña serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program at the University of British Columbia, teaching ETEC 540. His dual expertise bridges academia and industry as Director of Research at a Vancouver-based Financial Technology company, while leveraging firsthand experience as a former MET student to inform his pedagogy.

His research centers on visual communication systems, with emphasis on visual literacy, visual rhetoric, and visual semiotics applied to digital humanities. He explores practical design methodologies including data visualization techniques, typographic systems, and text composition frameworks, integrating professional design practice with educational technology theory.

As an independent researcher and educator, Peña maintains active industry engagement through fintech research leadership while contributing specialized design perspectives to MET curriculum development. His holistic program understanding stems from direct student experience within the same academic framework he now instructs.
