Ernesto Medina, DrPH, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University. His research focuses on lifestyle medicine, wellness coaching, and public health interventions, with a particular emphasis on physical activity promotion, dietary behavior, and the integration of technology in health programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Andrews University (1989), a Master of Public Health (1993), and a Doctor of Public Health (1993) from Loma Linda University.
His research spans topics such as the impact of social media on health behaviors, dietary practices among competitive athletes, and the effects of mergers and acquisitions on healthcare workforces. Medina is also involved in developing innovative programs like the LLUH Intensive Therapeutic Lifestyle Change Program and has contributed to studies on exergaming for youth, balance improvement in older adults, and workplace smoking cessation initiatives.
Medina teaches courses in wellness coaching, exercise physiology, and doctoral projects. His personal philosophy emphasizes holistic health through his 8 F’s framework (Feet, Food, Fingers, Fight-or-flight, Fumigation, Fatigue, Family/Friends, and Faith). He actively promotes physical activity through mountain biking and pickleball advocacy.
Key contributions include the evaluation of mobile health applications for stress reduction, assessments of exergaming’s role in youth physical activity, and exploring the theoretical underpinnings of dietary decisions in athletes. His work bridges clinical practice, public health policy, and technological innovation to enhance community well-being.
