His scholarly work demonstrates how theoretical civil law frameworks translate into practical judicial applications within the Latvian legal system, particularly examining property rights enforcement and contractual relationship interpretations. This dual perspective enriches both his academic contributions and judicial decision-making.
His publication record shows consistent scholarly output with significant recent productivity, particularly in property law domains including joint ownership termination, building rights, and forced servitudes. Kalniņš contributes regularly to the University of Latvia's academic conferences and publishes in the Journal of the University of Latvia Law and Juridiskā Zinātne (Legal Science), demonstrating his commitment to advancing Latvian civil law scholarship.
- 2nd Class Badge of Honor of the Judicial System
With nineteen years of experience as a sworn attorney (2003-2022) preceding his judicial appointment, Kalniņš brings substantial practical legal expertise to his academic role. This trajectory from legal practice to Supreme Court Judge while maintaining academic responsibilities creates a valuable feedback loop between courtroom experience and legal scholarship, particularly evident in his treatment of contractual disputes and property rights applications.
