Erle C. Ellis is a Professor in the Department of Geography & Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he has established himself as a leading scholar in human-environment interactions. He also serves as a Visiting Professor of Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher, Ellis was named a UMBC Presidential Research Professor for 2021-2024, reflecting his significant scholarly contributions to understanding humanity's relationship with Earth's biosphere.
