Erkki Isometsä

Erkki Isometsä serves as Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Helsinki and Supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Research. Externally, he holds the position of Chief Physician at HUS Aivokeskus, Psykiatrian vastuualueryhmä since August 2004, demonstrating deep integration with Helsinki University Hospital's psychiatric services.

His research centers on suicide prevention, mood disorders, and psychotic disorders, with pioneering work on risk factors for suicidal behavior in depression and bipolar disorders. Current projects like SUPER-Finland and STRIDE investigate pharmacogenetic predictors and behavioral interventions, reflecting his dual focus on biological mechanisms and clinical applications.
