Erin Murphy is a Professor of Bacteriology and Chair of Biomedical Sciences at Ohio University, within the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. She holds a PhD in Microbiology from SUNY Buffalo and a BS in Biology from SUNY Geneseo. Her expertise includes bacteriology, infectious disease, gene regulation, RNA thermometers, Shigella, Staphylococcus aureus, and small RNA biology.
Her research examines RNA-mediated gene regulation in pathogenic bacteria, focusing on how pathogens like Shigella and Staphylococcus aureus adapt to host environments through RNA thermometers and sRNAs to control virulence. She also investigates interactions between the growth hormone axis and gut microbiome.
