Erin Lavender-Stott is an Associate Professor at South Dakota State University (SDSU), affiliated with the School of Education, Counseling and Human Development. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Development (Family Studies) from Virginia Tech, an M.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a B.A. in Psychology from Hollins University. Her research focuses on family dynamics, LGBTQ+ studies, parenting stress, and well-being, particularly in marginalized communities. She actively contributes to academic committees, including serving as Vice-chair of the Student Success Committee (2020–2021).
Her research explores intersections of sexuality, relationship status, and family formation, with a focus on LGBTQ+ populations and singlehood. Recent work examines the psychological impacts of the pandemic on parenting and leisure activities, as well as long-term family planning for LGBTQ+ older adults. Her publications highlight themes of resilience, stress buffering, and queer identity formation across the life course.
