Dr. Erin Hofstatter is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the Yale School of Medicine. She specializes in breast cancer and clinical breast cancer genetics, serving as Co-Director of the Smilow Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program. Her clinical work focuses on high-risk breast cancer patients, integrating genetic counseling and physician-led care to manage hereditary risks. Dr. Hofstatter leads a robust translational research program, including a biorepository and investigator-initiated trials targeting BRCA+ breast cancer, DCIS, and triple-negative breast cancer. She holds leadership roles in multiple national and international initiatives, including the NCCN Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Guidelines and SWOG Cancer Prevention Committee.
Education: MD from University of Connecticut School of Medicine (2003); BA in Biology from Amherst College (1997). Completed residency and chief residency at Mount Auburn Hospital, followed by a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Research Interests: Clinical trials in early-phase oncology, germline mutation impact on breast cancer risk, and epigenetic biomarkers of cancer risk. Her work emphasizes improving access to genetic testing and reducing disparities in cancer care.
Key Achievements: Grew the Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program to serve 2,000+ patients annually, developed novel biomarkers for breast cancer recurrence, and pioneered studies on hormonal therapy adherence and financial toxicity in clinical trials.
