Erin Cox is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice in the Department of Communication and Media at Utah State University, where she teaches journalism and draws from her extensive professional experience in broadcast and investigative reporting. She is deeply connected to USU, having earned her BS in Journalism & Communications from the institution in 2018.

Erin's research and professional interests center on journalism ethics, political communication, and international media, particularly with a focus on China. Her fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin, along with her 18-month stay in Hong Kong, informs her unique perspective on cross-cultural reporting and media in East Asia. She is passionate about women's history, having co-written an award-winning paper on Utah women's constitutional arguments for suffrage, and has reported extensively on sexual assault and criminal justice issues.
Erin Cox is a two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and six-time nominee, recognized for excellence in reporting, videography, and investigative storytelling. Her accolades include honors from the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), where she has ranked among the top journalists in the Western U.S.
She has worked as a Multimedia Journalist for KSTU Fox 13 and joined the KSL 5 News Enterprise Team in 2022, focusing on in-depth stories around religion, diversity, and criminal justice. She continues to report professionally while teaching, ensuring her classroom instruction remains grounded in current media practice.
Erin is a member of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and the Utah Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and she remains actively engaged in community service and historical research.
