Erin Battin is a Teaching Associate Professor at West Virginia University, specializing in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Bioinorganic Chemistry. She holds a Ph.D. from Clemson University. Her research focuses on antioxidant mechanisms, metal-mediated DNA damage prevention, and metallomics, with notable contributions to understanding metal ion interactions in biological systems. She has received the Best Paper by a Young Investigator award in 2008 for her work on sulfur antioxidants. Dr. Battin is affiliated with the Chemistry Research Labs at WVU and actively contributes to undergraduate and graduate teaching through courses like CHEM 110, 115, 233, 235, and 490.
Her research spans interdisciplinary areas including bioinorganic chemistry, metallomics, and antioxidant activity of sulfur and selenium compounds. Recent studies explore how neurotransmitters and curcumin mitigate DNA damage via metal-binding mechanisms. Her work also emphasizes educational innovations in bioinorganic laboratory techniques.
