Eriks Rozners is a Professor of Chemistry at Binghamton University, specializing in nucleic acid chemistry and biochemistry. His research focuses on RNA structure/function relationships, designing RNA analogs, and developing peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) for RNA recognition. He holds a Doctor of Chemistry from Riga Technical University (1993) and a Master's in Chemical Engineering (1990).
Research Interests include chemical approaches to control RNA function, non-ionic RNA analogs, and PNA-based RNA targeting. He has received awards such as the Melville L. Wolfrom Award (2021) and the SUNY Chancellor's Award (2016). His work spans interdisciplinary collaborations with institutions globally, including the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and Elizabethtown College.
His lab actively explores CRISPR/Cas9 optimization, SARS-CoV-2 RNA targeting, and PNA-mediated modulation of RNA dynamics. Recent projects include amide-modified RNA to enhance siRNA specificity and PNA-based triplex formation for antiviral applications.
Rozners teaches organic synthesis and chemical biology, leading a team of graduate and undergraduate researchers. Funded by NSF and NIH grants, his group has secured over $2 million in research awards, including an NIH Maximizing Investigators' Research Award (MIRA) for studying regulatory RNAs.
