Dr. Erika F. Parsons is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Division of Computing & Software Systems within the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics at the University of Washington Bothell. She joined UW Bothell after previous faculty appointments at Washington State University and Everett Community College. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she collaborated with the Innovative Computing Laboratory.
Research Focus: Her work spans high-performance computing, applied machine learning, and statistical data analysis. Recently, she concentrates on developing machine learning-powered software tools for academic advising, including recommendation systems for student academic pathways. Her approach emphasizes practical applications that bridge industry experience with academic innovation.
Teaching Philosophy: Dr. Parsons fosters collaborative, industry-inspired learning environments where students become independent problem-solvers. She emphasizes shared responsibility in education, mirroring real-world team dynamics observed during her tenure as an SDET at Microsoft (2008–2013), where she specialized in .NET Framework reliability and threading specifications.
