Dr. Erik Zhang is a Lecturer (≈ Assistant Professor) in Moral and Political Philosophy at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science. He previously held roles as a Teaching Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was part of their Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Program. He earned a PhD in Philosophy from Princeton University and a BA from Queen's University (Canada).
His research focuses on normative ethics, metaethics, and political philosophy, with emphasis on interpersonal aggregation, promissory obligations, and relational wronging. Key projects include defending an individualist framework for moral justification and exploring the normative basis of promises.
Dr. Zhang's work appears in leading journals like Ethics , including his 2024 article on interpersonal aggregation. He is also a member of the Centre for Aesthetic, Moral and Political Philosophy.
