Erik Tempelman is an Associate Professor at TU Delft's Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, specializing in Sustainable Design Engineering and Emerging Materials. His research focuses on Design for (Re)manufacturing, aiming to transition manufacturing processes towards sustainable practices. He has over 30 years of experience in design, materials, and manufacturing, with a prior career in the automotive industry and TNO. He holds a Dr.ir. degree and has contributed to numerous research projects, including the EU-funded Light.Touch.Matters (2012-2016) and Nature-Inspired Design (2012-2015).
Tempelman has authored/co-authored books like NSFD: Engineering Essays on Structures & Materials (2020) and Basisboek Productietechniek (2023). He regularly publishes in De Constructeur, writes on LinkedIn, and collaborates with institutions like Avans University of Applied Sciences to develop new programs like the Materials & Energy Transition master's degree (MET-master, launching in 2024).
His media contributions include articles on smart industry, critical materials, and haptic technologies.
