Erik Nilsen is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Lewis & Clark College, specializing in Cognitive Psychology and Human-Computer Interaction. He holds a PhD in Psychology (Cognition and Perception) from the University of Michigan (1991). His research focuses on Serious Games, Tangible Technology, and Cognitive Development of Creativity in Children, with extensive collaborations on NSF-funded projects.
Key affiliations include leadership in the Living Laboratory Research on Cognitive Development of Problem Solving with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), and the PLAYLAB grant to develop science museum exhibits. He also contributed as an educational efficacy consultant on the EDURange cybersecurity project.
His research interests span disaster preparedness through serious games, tangible interactive systems for learning, and cognitive development in children. Notable projects include earthquake preparedness simulations and cybersecurity education frameworks.
Nilsen’s work bridges technology and education, emphasizing practical applications of cognition research in real-world contexts. He is based in the Biology-Psychology Hall at Lewis & Clark College.
