Erik Monsen is an Associate Professor and the Steven Grossman Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship at the University of Vermont's Grossman School of Business, with a secondary appointment in Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. His interdisciplinary career spans engineering, management, and economics, focusing on enabling technology organizations to become more entrepreneurial. He holds a Ph.D. in Organization Management from the University of Colorado Boulder, an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Technology Management, and degrees in aerospace engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Stanford University.
Previously, he served as Senior Lecturer and Director of Research at the University of Strathclyde Business School and Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Economics. His research examines employee-driven entrepreneurial behavior, particularly among scientists and engineers, challenging existing theories on organizational strategy and decision-making. His work has been published in journals like Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and Journal of Product Innovation Management, and he serves on editorial boards for top entrepreneurship journals.
Teaching spans entrepreneurship, technology commercialization, and strategic management across multiple universities, including at UVM where he instructs engineering, science, and medical graduate students. His research emphasizes creating value through innovation and fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems.
