Erik Cook is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at McGill University, located in the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building in Montreal, Quebec. His research focuses on understanding how neuronal activity underlies conscious visual perception through a systems-level approach that combines electrophysiological, behavioral, and computational techniques.
Education:
- B.Sc.E.E., Arizona State University
- M.E.E., Rice University
- Ph.D., Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Cook's research investigates how the brain encodes behaviorally relevant information in neuronal electrical activity, particularly in visual perception. His lab works to decipher the neural code by measuring cortical responses during visually-guided tasks and constructing quantitative models that link neuronal activity to perception. His work primarily focuses on visual attention mechanisms, motion processing, and the neural correlates of behavior in the middle temporal visual area (MT) and other cortical regions.
Dr. Cook has published numerous influential papers in top neuroscience journals including the Journal of Neuroscience, Nature Neuroscience, and Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. His research has significantly contributed to our understanding of how attention modulates neural responses and behavioral performance in visual processing tasks.
