معرفی
Erik Bitzek is a Lecturer at Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) in the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Materials Science. He leads the Modeling & Simulation group at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) in Düsseldorf since 2021. His research focuses on atomistic simulations, fracture mechanics, and computational materials science, with a strong emphasis on microstructure-property relationships in metals and alloys. Key areas include dislocation dynamics, hydrogen embrittlement, and multiscale modeling of mechanical behavior. Bitzek also contributes to data infrastructure initiatives like NFDI-MatWerk, addressing reference data management in materials science.
His work integrates experimental techniques (e.g., microcantilever fracture tests) with advanced simulation methods (e.g., machine-learning potentials and molecular dynamics) to study phenomena such as stacking faults, grain boundary effects, and nanoscale deformation. Recent projects explore the thermodynamic and mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys, Laves phases, and irradiation-induced damage in materials.
Bitzek’s research highlights the interplay between microstructural features and macroscopic material performance, addressing challenges in energy, aerospace, and structural applications. His contributions span computational frameworks for materials design, failure analysis under extreme conditions, and bridging scales from atomic to continuum mechanics.
