Erik Bengtsson is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Lund University's Department of Economic History since December 2020. Previously, he was a postdoc (2015-2017) and associate senior lecturer (2017-2020) at Lund. He earned his PhD from Gothenburg University in 2013 and was promoted to docent (Associate Professor) in 2019.

- Historical Living Standards, Material Culture, and Wealth Inequality in Europe since the 17th century
- Historical and Comparative Political Economy, focusing on Swedish Democratization and Neoliberalism
Recent Publications analyze wealth inequality trends in Sweden (1670–1950), transformations in wage bargaining (1930s–2010s), and comparative studies of Prussia and Sweden's political economy. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to poverty reduction and inequality.
Teaching: Courses include Global Economic History, Swedish Social History, and The Swedish Model. As Deputy Head of Department (2025), he focuses on undergraduate Swedish history instruction and supervises master's courses on inequality and economic thought.
Students: Supervises PhD candidate Marcus Falk (defending 2025) on rural material culture and co-leads projects on historical incomes and democratization.
Collaborations: Active in Nordic neoliberalism studies and Swedish-Dutch comparative research on agrarian politics. Organizes events like Climate Change, Water Scarcity & Biodiversity (2025).
