Erick Bengel is a Murrow News Fellow affiliated with Murrow College at Washington State University. His work focuses on rural and economic issues in Walla Walla and Columbia counties, with coverage in communities like Waitsburg, Dayton, and Burbank.
Bengel is an Oregon native who previously worked as a reporter and editor for the EO Media Group in Oregon. He interned through the University of Oregon’s Charles Snowden Program for Excellence in Journalism and earned a journalism degree from Columbia University. His thesis on a Washington cranberry farmer’s efforts to combat coastal erosion formed the basis of a The Guardian publication.
