Erica Lori Grimm is a Professor of Art at Trinity Western University (TWU), based in the School of the Arts, Media + Culture's Art + Design department. She is a Canadian artist of settler descent, residing on the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Stó:lō people. Her work bridges art, ecology, and embodiment through large-scale installations, research-creation projects, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Education: PhD (Simon Fraser University, 2012), Akademie der Bildenden Kuenste (Munich, 1983), BFA (University of Regina, 1982), and a Summer Scholarship at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1980).
Research interests include the Anthropocene, new materialism, ecology, spirituality, and the aesthetics of attentiveness. Her practice integrates drawing, intermedia, and collaborative spatial installations addressing environmental urgency. Recent projects include Upstream/Downriver: Walking the Stɑl̓əw̓ Watershed (2021–22) and Salt Water Skin Boats (2018), blending art with scientific and ecological themes.
Awards include the Imago National Juried Art Prize, SSHRC grants, and TWU's Distinguished Nash Lecturer title (2002). Her work is in collections like the Vatican Collection of Contemporary Art and the Canada Council Art Bank.
Teaching includes courses like ART 181 (Visual Foundations I), ART 211 (Life Drawing), and ART 451 (Socially Engaged Art). She collaborates with artists such as Tracie Stewart, Emily Arnett, and Sheinagh Anderson on site-specific installations and soundscapes, emphasizing community and environmental engagement.
