Erica Fischer is the Glenn Willis Holcomb Professor in Structural Engineering and Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University. Her research develops innovative approaches to improve structural resilience against natural hazards, with expertise in mass timber performance during fires and earthquakes.
Research interests include:
- Fire performance of mass timber and steel structures
- Wildfire impacts on infrastructure and communities
- Seismic design of timber-concrete composites
- Modular construction techniques
She leads multiple projects on wildfire resilience, including NSF-funded research on post-fire water system recovery and USDA-funded investigations into mass timber fire behavior. Recent publications examine UAS technology for disaster response, CLT connection performance, and life cycle assessment integration of fire risks.
Educational outreach includes directing the Mass Timber Webinar Series and serving on ASCE committees for fire protection and sustainability.
