Dr. Eric Zechner is a Lecturer and Research Assistant at the University of Basel, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences and the Department of Environmental Sciences. He works within the Applied and Environmental Geology (AUG) group under Prof. Dr. Oliver Schilling, focusing on groundwater-surface water interactions, salt diapir dynamics, and thermohaline flow modeling.
His research explores salt dissolution processes, land collapse risks, and density-driven groundwater flow, particularly in Transylvanian salt diapirs. His work bridges conceptual foundations with quantitative methods for sustainable subsurface resource management. Key projects include studies on eDNA tracers, thermal underground use, and regional groundwater-surface water interactions.
His recent publications analyze thermohaline simulations and salt dissolution potential, contributing to understanding geological instabilities and environmental impacts. Contact: eric.zechner@unibas.ch.
