Eric Yiou is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sports Sciences of the University of Paris-Saclay, holding HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) qualification which authorizes him to supervise doctoral research.
His research program focuses on:
- The interface of behavioral neuroscience and biomechanics
- Relationships between posture, balance, and voluntary movement
- The concept of 'posturo-kinetic capacity' (PKC) as the CNS response to movement disturbances
Dr. Yiou investigates how various constraints affect PKC through:
- Environmental manipulations (obstacles, time pressure)
- Physiological factors (muscle fatigue)
- Biomechanical conditions (joint hypomobility, load carrying)
- Psychological elements (fear of falling, emotions)
His methodology includes:
- Non-pharmacological interventions (whole-body vibrations, electrical stimulation)
- Studies with healthy adults (young and elderly) and Parkinson's disease patients
- Biomechanical analysis using force platforms, VICON systems, and surface electromyography
- Experimental models including pointing, thigh flexion, hip abduction, and gait analysis
