Eric Watkins

Eric Watkins serves as Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Provost Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science at the University of Minnesota. He maintains dual research affiliations with both the Department of Horticultural Science and the Center for Transportation Studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to sustainable landscape management. Currently accepting PhD students, Dr. Watkins has maintained an exceptionally active research profile with 89 documented research outputs and 60 projects and grants spanning two decades.

His research expertise centers on turfgrass science with particular focus on cool-season grasses including fine fescue and perennial ryegrass. Dr. Watkins' work spans multiple dimensions of plant science, from molecular genetics and stress tolerance mechanisms to practical applications in sustainable agriculture and urban landscaping.
