Eric Toups is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of Michigan. His research focuses on early North American Indigenous history, particularly the Lower Mississippi River Valley and Eastern North America in the 17th and 18th centuries. He examines Indigenous politics, spatial practices, and interactions with colonial land regimes. His current book project explores the Mississippi River Delta's Indigenous landscape, 'Bvlbancha,' and its communities' adaptive strategies. His next project analyzes the narrative of Moncacht-Apé, a Yazoo linguist and voyager, focusing on the story's thematic significance rather than its historical verification.
