Eric Tillman is the Fletcher Jones Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Santa Clara University (SCU), serving concurrently as the Associate Provost for Research. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Southern California and a B.S. in Biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University. His research focuses on polymer synthesis, particularly nickel-catalyzed reductive coupling of polymer chains, radical trap-assisted atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC), and the design of macrocyclic polymers.
Dr. Tillman has secured significant grants, including a $241,000 MRI grant for advanced macromolecular characterization equipment and a $130,000 RUI grant for macrocyclic polymer synthesis. He has received prestigious awards such as the Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award and multiple Beckman Scholar Awards. His work has produced over 50 peer-reviewed publications, emphasizing sustainable synthesis methods and innovative polymer architectures.
In addition to his academic roles, Tillman mentors students in the Chemistry & Biochemistry research group, focusing on projects like nickel-catalyzed coupling and green chemistry approaches. His lab is located in the Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation, with administrative offices in Learning Commons 331C. He can be reached at etillman@scu.edu for collaborations or inquiries.
