Dr. Eric Plum is a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC). His research focuses on nanophotonics, metamaterials, and advanced optical metrology techniques. He leads and contributes to projects such as the 'Next Generation Optical Metrology Driven by Nanophotonics' (EPSRC-funded) and 'Optical Magnetic Field Sensor' (US Office of Naval Research). Eric supervises multiple PhD students in topics like picometrology and nanomechanical systems. He has presented invited talks on photonic metamaterials and nanomechanical advancements at international conferences. His work emphasizes developing high-resolution optical measurement systems and functional metamaterial devices for applications in sensing, imaging, and signal processing.
Eric's research interests include topological optics, super-resolution imaging, and nonlinear metamaterial phenomena. He collaborates with global institutions on projects like the 'Physics & Tech of Photonic Metadevices & Metasystems' (EPSRC). His recent publications explore picometer-scale metrology, metamaterial-based sensors, and the intersection of light and nanomechanical systems. He actively engages in knowledge transfer through academic partnerships and industry collaborations.
Key achievements include pioneering topological picometrology systems capable of million-measurement-per-second resolution and developing novel approaches to optical magnetic field sensing. His work bridges fundamental nanophotonics research with applied technologies, positioning him at the forefront of metamaterial innovation.
