Eric Plaisance

Dr. Eric Plaisance is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Nutrition Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with joint appointments across multiple research centers including the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Education:

• PhD in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, Auburn University (2006)
• BS in Biology, Nicholls State University (1997)

Postdoctoral training at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.

His 24+ years of research examines metabolic effects of exogenous ketones, obesity-related alterations in energy balance, and dietary influences on glucose/lipid metabolism. Current work investigates ketone esters' impacts on liver inflammation and hepatocyte lipid regulation using translational approaches from rodent models to human studies.

Dr. Plaisance holds certifications as Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM) and Strength/Conditioning Specialist (NSCA). His laboratory focuses on mechanistic pathways linking dietary interventions with metabolic health outcomes.
