Eric Ottenheijm is an Associate Professor in Religious Studies at Utrecht University's Faculty of Humanities. His research examines the formation of religious identities through cultural exchanges, focusing on Rabbinic Judaism and early Christianity. He investigates how textual analysis and material culture reveal socio-religious dynamics in antiquity.
His research interests include:
- Comparative analysis of parables across religious traditions
- Interreligious polemics and identity formation
- Material culture in early Jewish-Christian contexts
- Sectarian dynamics in Gospel narratives
Current projects explore the historical development of early Jewish parables and the Gospel of Matthew's Jewish context. Ottenheijm serves as chairman of the CRINT Foundation and editorial board member for Jewish and Christian Perspectives.
