Eric Orts is the Guardsmark Professor and Professor of Legal Studies and Business Ethics and Professor of Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a faculty member at Wharton since 1991 and was named to his endowed professorship in 2001. His academic work bridges law, ethics, and business, with a strong focus on corporate governance, environmental policy, and the moral responsibilities of firms.

Orts earned his JSD and LL.M. from Columbia University, JD from the University of Michigan, MA from the New School for Social Research, and BA from Oberlin College. His interdisciplinary training informs his broad research agenda.

His research interests include corporate governance, environmental law and policy, business ethics, constitutional law, and theories of the firm. He has published on topics ranging from climate change and business to the moral responsibility of corporations and U.S. Senate reform. His work often explores the intersection of law, ethics, and democratic institutions.
The recent articles highlight a strong trend toward interdisciplinary scholarship, combining legal analysis with political theory and environmental science. His publications appear in top journals in law, management, and ethics, showing a consistent focus on the role of business in society, environmental governance, and constitutional challenges.
