Eric Opdam is a Professor of Algebraic Group Theory at the Korteweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics, University of Amsterdam. He holds the Chair of Algebraic Group Theory and has been actively involved in organizing international workshops and conferences on representation theory and related fields. His research focuses on affine Hecke algebras, complex reflection groups, and harmonic analysis within Lie groups.
He has editorial roles at International Mathematics Research Notices (IMRN) and serves as a managing editor for Compositio Mathematica. Recent teaching activities include master-level courses on Knot Theory and Quantum Groups, as well as undergraduate courses in Representation Theory. He has also contributed to significant collaborations, such as the Isaac Newton Institute's Algebraic Lie Theory program (2009) and the Hausdorff Research Institute's trimester on Representation Theory (2011).
His research interests encompass the interplay between algebraic structures and geometric-analytic methods, particularly in the context of p-adic groups and their representations. Key contributions include studies on harmonic analysis for affine Hecke algebras, Dunkl operators, and applications to quantum groups.
