Prof. Eric Laenen is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Utrecht University and the University of Amsterdam. He holds leadership roles, including Director of the Institute of Physics at the University of Amsterdam since 2022 and Vice President of the Netherlands delegation at CERN Council since 2022. His research focuses on particle physics, particularly the Standard Model, high-energy collider experiments (e.g., LHC), and theoretical methods to predict precise cross-sections for top quarks, Higgs bosons, and vector bosons. He develops advanced techniques like threshold resummation and next-to-soft radiation corrections in quantum chromodynamics (QCD). His work emphasizes factorization theorems, perturbative corrections, and non-perturbative effects. He is also involved in initiatives for future e+e- colliders and contributes to Monte Carlo simulations for particle physics analysis.
Laenen has authored or co-authored over 150 scientific publications since 1993, including seminal works on resummation techniques, soft-collinear effects, and QCD corrections. His research bridges theoretical predictions with experimental data from CERN and other colliders. He teaches advanced courses on field theory in particle physics at the master’s level.
His scientific contributions include leadership in international collaborations and advisory roles in particle physics. He has mentored numerous researchers and contributed to the technical foundations of modern collider physics.
