Eric Labbé

Eric Labbé is a Professor at Sorbonne University, based at the École Normale Supérieure's Department of Chemistry in Paris. His academic career spans over three decades, with his current professorship at Sorbonne University beginning in 2006. Prior to this, he served as a Lecturer at IUFM de Créteil from 1992 to 2005, completed a postdoctoral position at Pierre and Marie Curie University in 1991-1992, and earned his PhD from the same institution between 1988 and 1991.

His research focuses on analytical electrochemistry with particular emphasis on understanding reactivity and transport issues related to biological molecules. Labbé specializes in exploring drug metabolism and biomolecule distribution across lipid membranes through electrochemical switching of fluorescent probes. His work centers on developing electrochemically switchable dual redox/fluorescent probes to study the journey of biomolecules through living organisms - from generation or administration to elimination - with special attention to metabolic processes and transport steps across barriers.

Labbé's research has evolved from early work on electrosynthetic and electrocatalytic sequences in Jacques Périchon's group at Université Paris Est (UPEC) to his current focus on drug metabolism and biomolecule transport. His recent publications demonstrate a strong trend toward advanced electrochemical imaging techniques, particularly electrochemiluminescence for studying liposome dynamics and membrane interactions. His work bridges fundamental electrochemistry with biological applications, especially in drug metabolism studies and the development of electrochemical probes for biological systems.

Teaching is an integral part of Labbé's professional activities. He is engaged in training French middle and high-school teachers in physics and chemistry through the Master MEEF program at ESPE de Paris, provides lifelong formation for chemistry teachers at Sorbonne University, and teaches Electrochemistry at the École Normale Supérieure.
