Eric Kennedy is an Associate Professor and Head of Vanier College at York University's School of Administrative Studies, with additional roles as Director of Y-EMERGE and Undergraduate Area Coordinator for the Disaster and Emergency Management program. He holds a PhD and MSc from Arizona State University and a BKI from the University of Waterloo.
His research focuses on decision-making in wildfire management and emergency contexts, policy development, science & technology studies, and pandemic response (e.g., COVID-19). He emphasizes improving evidence-informed policy, expertise validation in crises, and qualitative research methods. His work bridges academic research with practical applications, including program evaluations and collaborations with emergency management organizations.
He leads the CEMPPR Lab, exploring emergency management policy, training, and decision-making. He also runs the Science Outside the Lab program, training early-career researchers in science policy. Kennedy actively engages with media and public service organizations for expert insights and welcomes collaborations.
