Eric J. Sundberg serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology with dual appointments in the same department. He concurrently holds the administrative leadership role of Co-Director for the Basic Science Division within the Institute of Human Virology.
His research focuses on critical intersections of viral pathogenesis and immune responses, specifically examining human viral diseases through fundamental laboratory investigations. Key areas include:
- Host-pathogen interactions in viral infections
- Immunological mechanisms against retroviruses
- Basic virology of human pathogens
- Molecular mechanisms of viral replication
- Immune evasion strategies
- Therapeutic target identification
As Co-Director of the Basic Science Division, Dr. Sundberg oversees foundational research programs advancing understanding of viral disease mechanisms and immune system responses, directly contributing to the Institute of Human Virology's mission in combating viral pathogens through rigorous scientific inquiry.
