Eric House

Eric House is a Professor in the Department of English at New Mexico State University. He studies rhetoric and writing through the lens of cultural production and identification, with a focus on Black rhetorical traditions.

His research explores how practices from Black rhetoricians—such as hip-hop DJs—remix writing studies and challenge conventional composition theory and pedagogy. He situates his work at the intersection of writing studies, rhetoric, literacy studies, linguistics, cultural studies, Black Feminism, and Critical Race Theory, prioritizing marginalized voices in academic discourse.

Eric earned a PhD and MA in Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English from the University of Arizona, and a BA in English from Northern Arizona University. His recent courses include Studies in Literacy (ENGL 5/650), Advanced Study in Writing (4/549), and Comparative Rhetorics (ENGL 5/690).
