Eric Hesse

Eric Hesse serves as a Researcher at the Institute of History within the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts, History and Social Sciences at the University of Regensburg. He has held the position of Research Associate at the Chair of Medieval History since November 2024, following prior service as a Research Assistant from September 2021 to October 2024 under Prof. Dr. Jenny Rahel Oesterle-El Nabbout.

Hesse specializes in late medieval urban societies with concentrated focus on Regensburg. His research examines bourgeois elite representation, patrician class structures, and cultural memory practices (Memoria) within medieval urban contexts. He also investigates the intersection of historical scholarship with contemporary urban tourism, alongside analyzing magical practices—including incantations, blessings, and everyday magic—in late medieval and early modern European societies. This work bridges academic research with public history applications through cultural mediation frameworks.

Professional activities include active participation in the Chair of Medieval History's research initiatives, with particular emphasis on translating historical findings for educational and tourism contexts in Regensburg.
