Tim Sebastiaan Hertogh is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Humanities, affiliated with the MINiTEXTS-project. His research focuses on the history of knowledge, religion, and magic in the Early Medieval West, particularly incantations between 700–1000 CE. He holds an MA (Research) in Medieval Studies from Utrecht University (2020–2022), complemented by an Erasmus exchange at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris (2021–2022), and a BA in History from Utrecht University (2017–2020).
His current PhD thesis investigates incantations within marginalized manuscript texts, emphasizing their role in Early Medieval cultural and religious practices. Key research interests include manuscript marginalia, divination practices, and the intersection of religion and magic in medieval Europe.
Recent work includes a 2023 publication in the International Journal of Divination and Prognostication analyzing the Tabula prenostica Salomonis. Hertogh collaborates with the MINiTEXTS project, exploring marginalized voices in early medieval manuscripts.
