Eric Harrell is a Professor and Department Chair of Theatre and Performing Arts at Regent University, where he has served for nearly two decades. He holds administrative roles including former Head of the MFA Acting Program and Artistic Director of Regent Theatre. He founded Tidewater Stage, a professional summer theatre, in 2012. His expertise spans acting, directing, vocal coaching, and movement training, emphasizing psycho-physical methodologies like Linklater and Alexander Techniques. He actively directs contemporary and classical plays and teaches nationwide workshops on kinesthetic awareness.
Education: B.A. in Theatre Arts from Abilene Christian University; MFA in Acting from University of Nebraska-Lincoln/Nebraska Repertory Theatre. Additional training includes Movement Theatre Studio (NYC), TVI Actors Studio (LA), and the Alexander Technique Residential Program (Ohio State).
Research focuses on integrating mind-body techniques in actor training. Recent creative works include directing Two Gardens (UK, 2024) and acting in Dracula (2024). Awards include Regent’s Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award and Kennedy Center’s Certificate of Merit.
He collaborates with Armed Services Arts Partnership, offering arts education to military communities. His teaching spans acting fundamentals, voice, and movement for MFA students. Current roles include directing Regent Theatre productions and advising on 20th-century playwrights.
