Eric Hanson is an Artist Affiliate in low strings and Director of the Berry College Symphony Orchestra, affiliated with the Music Department at Berry College's Visual and Performing Arts School. He has been a member of the Chattanooga Symphony since 1994 and previously served as Principal Bassist with the Huntsville Symphony and performed with the Milwaukee Symphony. In addition to his orchestral duties, he teaches double bass at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Cadek Conservatory, and maintains a private studio in Chattanooga. He is pursuing doctoral studies at Shenandoah Conservatory, researching contra bass instruments like the five-stringed violone during the Haydn/Mozart era.

His research focuses on historical bass instruments, complementing his extensive performance experience across regional orchestras. Eric’s pedagogical work spans beginner to college-level instruction, emphasizing instrumental mastery and classical traditions. As Symphony Orchestra Director, he leads Berry’s ensemble, fostering student musicianship and collaborative performance.
