Eric Haas, J.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Educational Leadership and Director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Social Justice Program at California State University, East Bay. He holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame (B.S. in Electrical Engineering), The Catholic University of America (J.D.), and Arizona State University (MEd and Ph.D.).
With nearly 30 years in education, Haas has served as a teacher, principal, researcher at WestEd, and faculty member at six universities. His research focuses on legal rights of English learners, school reform, and policy change influenced by unconscious mental models. Notable projects include leading evaluations for the IES WRITE program and Lindsay USD’s Race to the Top grant. He is completing a book on best practices for educating English learners with learning disabilities.
Haas’s work emphasizes systemic equity, advocating for policies addressing economic exploitation and human dignity in education. His grants include IES-funded evaluations, and he has published in journals like Educational Administration Quarterly and the American Educational Research Journal.
Through his directorship, Haas oversees a doctoral program prioritizing social justice, reflecting his commitment to transforming educational leadership in polarized contexts.
