- M.Phil. and Diploma in Theology from University of Oxford (Rhodes Scholar)
- Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Yale University
Gregory's research critically examines the role of religious traditions in political life, exploring themes of love, justice, and pluralism. He investigates how theological concepts like the double love command inform democratic practice and global ethics, while engaging with contemporary crises including pandemics, surveillance, and religious conflict. His methodology integrates historical theology with political philosophy to address modern democratic challenges.
Recent publications demonstrate sustained engagement with political theology across diverse contexts—from just war ethics in security states to pandemic humanitarianism—revealing consistent interdisciplinary analysis of religion's public role. The work spans theological, philosophical, and policy dimensions while maintaining focus on Augustinian ethical frameworks.
Key honors include:
- Princeton’s President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching (2007)
- Rhodes Scholarship
- Fellowships from Harvard’s Safra Center, Notre Dame’s Erasmus Institute, NEH, and NYU’s Tikvah Center
