Eric Goosby, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine. He is a global leader in HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) eradication efforts, having served as the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator under President Barack Obama, overseeing PEPFAR (President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief). His work spans global health policy, health systems strengthening, and advancing health equity.
Goosby's research focuses on HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, TB control, and leveraging health diplomacy to address global health challenges. He co-led the Lancet Commission on Tuberculosis, advocating for a tuberculosis-free world. His contributions include advancing Option B+ for HIV treatment and integrating TB care into public health systems.
He is a Member of the National Academy of Medicine (2014) and has contributed to landmark reports on global health, including responses to Ebola and antimicrobial resistance. His publications emphasize implementation science, universal health coverage, and addressing social determinants of health.
