Eric Claus is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health at Penn State's College of Health and Human Development. His research focuses on identifying neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying behavior change in substance use disorders, with a particular emphasis on addiction, neuroimaging, and brain stimulation techniques.
- Affiliation: Co-funded faculty member of the Social Science Research Institute
- Education: PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from the University of Colorado (2007)
He employs advanced neuroimaging methods (fMRI, MEG, EEG) and neuromodulation approaches to study neural circuits involved in substance use disorders, spanning initiation, maintenance, and recovery stages. Current projects investigate brain network adaptations during alcohol reduction in treatment and non-treatment contexts, as well as post-cessation neural changes in cigarette smokers.
Eric is actively accepting graduate students and maintains a laboratory at 130 Biobehavioral Health Building. His work aims to translate neuroimaging findings into novel targets for transcranial electrical stimulation interventions.
