معرفی
Erhard Hohenester is a Professor of Structural Matrix Biology at Imperial College London's Department of Life Sciences (Faculty of Natural Sciences). His research focuses on the structural and functional analysis of extracellular matrix components, particularly laminins and proteoglycans. He has held roles including Deputy Head of the Department and Director of Research.
Education: PhD in Biophysics (University of Basel, 1995), postdoctoral research at Birkbeck, University of London (collaborating with Rupert Timpl). Joined Imperial College in 1998 as a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow, promoted to Professor in 2009. He ceased active research in 2024 but continues teaching undergraduate students.
Research interests include structural biology of extracellular matrix proteins, glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis, and protein-protein interactions. Key affiliations include the Molecular mechanisms of disease group, Glycobiology, and the Centre for Structural Biology. His work spans structural elucidation of laminins, integrin interactions, and enzymatic mechanisms in proteoglycan synthesis.
Publications reflect expertise in collagen processing, receptor signaling, and extracellular matrix assembly. Notable contributions include structural insights into discoidin domain receptors, laminin polymerization, and xylosyltransferase engineering.
Teaching focus includes undergraduate structural biology and biochemistry modules. No scientific awards explicitly listed in provided texts.
