معرفی
Ergin Atalar is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University's Faculty of Engineering and serves as Director of the National Magnetic Resonance Research Center since 2009. He previously held faculty positions at Johns Hopkins University where he was Professor across multiple departments including Radiology, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
His research focuses on magnetic resonance imaging with particular emphasis on interventional MRI, MRI safety, and medical device development. Dr. Atalar pioneered techniques for MRI-guided cardiovascular interventions, developing miniature catheter-based receivers that enable real-time imaging during procedures. His work spans cardiovascular imaging, safety of MRI with metallic implants, and development of novel medical devices for safer diagnostic imaging.
His research group has produced significant advancements in the field, with publications covering MRI-guided interventions, safety protocols, and novel imaging techniques. The research trends demonstrate a consistent focus on translating engineering innovations into clinical applications, particularly in cardiovascular and interventional radiology.

Dr. Atalar has supervised numerous students and fellows, with his trainees winning American Heart Association Young Investigator Awards for three consecutive years (1999-2001). His research has been supported through multiple grants leading to significant technological developments including the formation of SurgiVision Inc. (now MRI Interventions Inc.) and Troyka Med A.S. His collaborative approach spans multiple disciplines including cardiology, radiology, urology, and neurology.
He maintains active collaborations across departments at Bilkent University, working with researchers from Psychology and Molecular Biology and Genetics departments, resulting in publications in high-impact journals including Genome Research and Nature Genetics.
