Dr. Ergete Ferede is a Professor of Economics at MacEwan University, where he has served since 2006. He holds a PhD from the University of Alberta, following BA and M.Sc. degrees from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia). His expertise spans macroeconomics, public finance, tax policies, and fiscal federalism. He teaches courses such as Public Expenditure Economics, Taxation Policy, and Macroeconomic Theory.
Dr. Ferede’s research focuses on tax policy impacts, fiscal federalism dynamics, and economic growth mechanisms. His work has been published in journals like National Tax Journal and Small Business Economics. He currently serves as a Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute, contributing to policy analysis.
His teaching portfolio includes ECON 102 (Macroeconomics), ECON 353 (Taxation Policy), and ECON 497 (Economic Analysis Capstone). He has received a joint research grant from the Donner-Canadian Foundation (2008–2010) with Professor Bev Dahlby of the University of Alberta.
Dr. Ferede has extensive prior teaching experience at Addis Ababa University, the University of Alberta, and the University of Windsor. His research consistently examines the interplay between tax policies, fiscal structures, and economic outcomes, with a particular emphasis on Canadian provinces.
