Dr. Eran Blacher is an Assistant Professor in the Biological Chemistry Department at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, leading the Gut-Brain Axis Lab. He holds the Azrieli Early Career Faculty Fellowship (2022) and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Global Fellowship (2022). His research focuses on the interplay between gut microbiota, immune systems, and neurological diseases, particularly in aging contexts. He investigates mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration (e.g., Alzheimer’s, ALS), stroke, and brain tumors through a holistic approach integrating microbiome and host biology.
Education: PhD from Tel Aviv University (Israel), postdoctoral training at Weizmann Institute (Israel) and Stanford University (USA). Current roles include senior postdoctoral fellow at Stanford’s Department of Neurology while maintaining a primary faculty position at Hebrew University.
Research Themes:
- Microbiome-driven modulation of neurodegenerative processes
- Age-related immune metabolic pathways
- Microbial metabolites as therapeutic targets
Recent work demonstrates nicotinamide’s neuroprotective role in ALS models, published in Nature (2019) and Science (2021). Active in translational research, currently hiring postdocs/PhD students for projects exploring gut-brain communication and microbiome-based therapies.
Awards: NOSTER & Science Microbiome Prize (2021), multiple peer-reviewed grants.
